| Founded in 1976 the Children's Media Workshop is a non-profit organization that utilizes visual artists and instant media technologies (video, digital photography, computers, radio) to greatly increase the communication and language skills of participants. Though the means is art, the objective is heightened communication skills leading to improved problem solving and critical thinking abilities. The CMW has served the Utah community and the nation at-large since 1976 and has conducted workshops in such diverse venues as: The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The High Museum in Atlanta, The Museum of Contemporary Art In L.A., Paris, Rome, and the International School of Casablanca in Morocco. The Visual Learning Workshops, the largest teacher training initiative in US history (650,000 K-12 teachers) evolved from CMW programming in the early 1990s. The Global Classroom project is a current work-in-progress connecting teachers from around the world using new media to transform schools into places of accelerated learning. |
